video game history arkanoid

Arkanoid is an arcade game released in 1986 by Taito, a Japanese company. The game was designed by Akira Fujita and supervised by Hiroshi Tsujino.

The plot of Arkanoid is simple: the player controls a spaceship called Vaus, which must destroy blocks at the top of the screen while avoiding the ball from falling to the bottom of the screen. If the ball falls, the player loses a life. The goal is to clear all the blocks on each level to advance to the next.

The game was an evolution of the popular Breakout by Atari, released in 1976. Arkanoid had improved graphics and more refined gameplay. It also introduced power-ups that dropped from destroyed blocks, such as a fireball for the ship, an extra ball, a longer paddle, etc.

The success of Arkanoid led to the creation of several sequels, including Arkanoid: Revenge of Doh in 1987 and Arkanoid: Doh It Again in 1997. It also inspired other developers to create similar games, such as Alleyway for Nintendo's Game Boy.
